*04.28.2004 - 12:29 a.m.* Reader or Writer? It is possible to be both. In Fiction Workshop, the questions was asked "How do I know if I'm a writer?" There was no conclusion. I know that I love to write. I know that I write better then some, and worse then most. I know that I can easily spend 3 hours revising a single piece. I do not know if I am a writer. I like to think I have some degree of talent in that field, because I do enjoy it muchly. However, tonight I had an epiphany. I am a reader. I use to believe that I was just a casual reader. I liked to read, a lot, and I liked to read a variety of stuff. Tonight solidified the fact that I am not just a casual reader. I am a Reader Reader. A friend of mine owed me money, and today he asked me if he could pay me back in Borders Store credit. Not only did I say yes, but as soon as I got the gift card, I immediatly went to Borders and got the Best American Nonrequired Reading 2003 Anthology because Prof. Day said that one of the short stories, "The Littlest Hitler" was great. So I picked up the book, looked through it, found some other authors I liked, and bought it. And read three stories. And immediatly realized exactly why I liked these short stories better then The Da Vinci Code. Instead of saving the gift card for food, I spent half of it on a book that I had very little idea if I would like it. "If I have a little money I buy books; and if any is left, I buy food and clothes." --Erasmus ________________________________________________________
