*2000-05-02 - 21:50:23* Wow...a very interesting day today. First off, tomorrow in English is Food Day, where our English teacher brings in food, and we eat it. Tomorrow in History we get to do another essay in class. Tomorrow in Math, we will be doing math problems. So, that's the AP Prep update. Now, for the interesting parts: I'm not going to the Prom Friday. I've decided. It's only the Junior Prom, no biggie. It's not worth the $40 + however much dress would have cost. My Mom was worried that there was something wrong with me. To quote her, "I don't want you to be a nerd and an old maid!" Needless to say, I cracked up. All over a Junior Prom? Not even the Senior Prom, the Junior Prom. That just struck me as very funny. She tried a last attempt to convince me by saying "But I saw all these beautiful dresses at this store, and the company has stopped making them, and theis is the best time to buy them!" and "But, everyone talks about their Proms later in life!" I said, I didn't need any dresses, and I really didn't want to go to the prom. She replied "So, you're not going to put me through Prom Dress Hell?" I said "No, I'm not." I think she was dissappointed. I promised her I'd put her through Prom Dress Hell next year, and that made her feel a bit better, I think. She grew up way different then I did. She told me that when she went to high school, if you didn't go to the Prom you were a weirdo. It was a big deal back then. She also said she's worried that she made a mistake because I'm growing up so different then her, that I have a better sense of myself. I told her that life doesn't end after high school. It's not the be all and end all of my social life. Then she asked what the hell was wrong with all the guys at my school for not asking me out. Typical Mom, I love her. Then I came home and told my Dad about my decision and Mom's reaction (which I still found funny). He said, "You should go." And that was it. I'm sticking with my decision though. So, that was interesting. My Mom's afraid of me being a nerd, but she's proud that I have a sense of myself. Well, can't have it all I guess. Opinion of the moment: What is up with all these guys bleaching their hair the color of classroom chalk? On some guys it looks OK, but on others it looks downright awful. Does male fashion sense carry on into their hair styles? I hope not, gosh...picture that. ________________________________________________________
